 Post subject: turn off autocomplete for PHP variables?

I'm doing some editing to a series of code lines and (due to the number of similarly named variables) it would be easier to not have the autocomplete window pop up with all of the PHP variable names everytime I type over a variable to change it. Is there a way to disable that temporarily?
