800mb + is not really a huge memory IMHO.
Specially when in 64bit OS environment.
4gb is minimum in 64 bit environment, better would be 8, on Linux we manage with 6 gb.

I use Netbeans x64 too (which is a java application) and max amount of memory is between 500 - 650.
I use a lot of tools. If every one consume a lot of memory... think about it.

Personally, CodeLobster runs with 228Mb of memory. There's probably something wrong with your installation !
